redray privacy policy
Effective 10 October 2026. Applies to the redray app for Android (app.nrunning.redray).
In short
redray collects no data. There is no account, no server of ours, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. Everything you scan stays on your phone.
What stays on your phone
- Scans. The photos you take or import, the flattened pages, and the text read from them are stored in redray's private storage on your phone. Other apps can't read them.
- Settings. Your few choices (for example whether the extra text models may download) are stored on your phone in the same place.
- No cloud backup. redray asks Android not to put its data in a cloud backup (such as Google Drive). If you move to a new phone with a direct phone-to-phone transfer, your scans can move with you.
- Deleting. Deleting a scan in the app removes it. Uninstalling redray, or clearing its storage in Android's settings, removes everything it stored.
What leaves your phone
- Only what you share or save yourself. When you share a scan (as a PDF, images or a .doks file) or save it to a folder, it goes where you send it, through Android's own share and file pickers. redray doesn't see or keep what happens to it there.
- One optional download. The Russian and Arabic text-recognition models (16.5 MB) are downloaded once,
on Wi-Fi, after your first scan's text is read, from the Tesseract OCR project on GitHub
(
github.com/tesseract-ocr). This is a plain file download: nothing about you or your scans is sent. Like any download, it reveals your phone's internet address to GitHub, which handles it under its own privacy statement. You can turn this off, start it yourself, or remove the models in redray's settings, and redray works without them.
redray makes no other connection to the internet.
Permissions
- Camera: to scan. Pictures are processed on the phone.
- Internet and network state: only for the optional model download above, and to keep it to Wi-Fi.
redray doesn't ask for your location, contacts, microphone, or access to your photo library; photos you import are picked one at a time with Android's photo picker.
Children
redray is a general-audience utility. It collects no data from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with a new effective date, and the app's listing will link to it.
